Hi, i'm Ed
I'm a designer, maker and technologist based in London. I enjoy a learning-by-doing approach to design and engineering challenges, from making quick idea-testing prototypes to fully finished artefacts.
I have been a Food Tech startup founder for the past three years and I'm now looking to apply my experience, skills and learnings to a new adventure in the design and making industry.
Please scroll down for examples of my previous work and professional experiences.
Canopi was an agri-food tech startup co-founded by myself and two others in which we were developing Bloom, a device for the home which cultivates the super nutritious cyanobacteria spirulina. The aim was to use home cultivation to connect people with their nutrition in a way which powders and pills are incapable of, unlocking the food’s full nutritional potential and promoting a consistent daily consumption habit. Alongside this, the broader mission of the company was to use design as a tool to explore how physical products and systems can be used to help build resilience within the currently unstable and critically destructive food supply system. I am currently working as freelance designer and maker within the interior and set building industry. This is allowing me to learn about aspects of design which differ to my previous experience in the consumer product space, and broaden my making skillset, learning more about carpentry and workshop fabrication. I have worked for companies including Haberdashery (sculptural lighting), MADE Workshop, Alex White Design, Goodshed CNC and have completed several personal projects for private clients. The work has involved concept visualisation sketching, CAD modelling, material sourcing, carpentry and digital fabrication.
